Experts by Experience
At PRICE Training, we know that training is most powerful when it includes the voices of people who have lived through restraint. Our programmes are shaped not only by theory and professional practice, but also by the real experiences and insights of those directly affected.
Why it matters
For training to remain relevant, it must reflect the feelings and impact of restraint from the perspective of those who experienced it. Listening to lived experience brings a powerful reminder of the human cost, and challenges us all to think carefully about when, why, and how restraint is used.
Ellie’s story
Ellie shares her experience of growing up in residential care, where she was restrained as a child. Since leaving care, she has become an in-house PRICE Trainer, using her lived experience to shape the way others learn about restraint. Her reflections help our delegates understand the lasting impact restraint can have, and why restraint reduction is so vital.
Grant’s story
Grant has been part of PRICE Training since 2015, both as a trainer and as an “expert by experience.” His filmed account of being restrained as a child is now embedded in our courses, adding a unique perspective that continues to resonate with delegates.
“As a kid, having been restrained many times myself, I hope I bring a different dimension to our training… I want others to learn about the impact restraint can have on an individual’s self-worth and life chances.”
Supporting wider initiatives
We also work with organisations who want to involve their own “experts by experience.” By creating forums or working groups with current or former service users, schools, or residents, services can gain invaluable insights to improve culture and practice. We’re here to support any customer who wants to develop their own lived experience initiatives.
